In true “didn’t see that coming” fashion, D3 today announced that a sequel to Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. The game is titled Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath, and Beyond (admit it, you chuckled).
In this sequel, Matt’s nemesis General Neutronov has reanimated enemies from Hazard’s past games (like The Adventures of Matt in Hazard Land and Chest of the Pirate Queen). The plan is that Neutronov wants to join with these villains to destroy Matt Hazard in the past so as to cease his existence in the present. Matt Hazard must chase Neutronov through his past adventures to stop this dastardly plot. Because those “original” games were apparently made in the 8-bit era, that’s what is going to be explored in this outing.
The title is supposed to be recreating the 8-bit era in full 3D, and if it is true to the original there will probably be a few laughs to be had along the way. Blood, Bath and Beyond will be playable in either single player or co-op mode, and the developer assures us that players will be traversing such landscapes as a pirate hideout and even the moon. Although there have been no in-game screenshots as of yet, D3 supplied us with a handy guide for video game characters down on their luck coming back into the limelight. Matt Hazard: Blood, Bath, and Beyond will be released in Winter of this year.
