Bayonetta Kicks Ass in Japan

Bayonetta has been blowing reviewers out of the water in Japan. SEGA are very proudly blowing their trumpets hard at the news that Famitsu has given Bayonetta 40/40 for the 360 and 38/40 for the PS3.

Of course this bodes well for those of us who are waiting with bated breath for the European and American releases in January.

“Traditionally high scoring games in Famitsu go on to perform very well at retail in both Japan and the rest of the world. PlatinumGames set out to deliver a game that redefines the 3D action genre, and we feel that they have set a benchmark for future games in the genre to aspire to,” said Mike Hayes, CEO of SEGA America & SEGA Europe.

He added, “We chose a January ship date for BAYONETTA as we firmly believe that it is the best time for SEGA and our retail partners to launch this exciting new IP in the West, and push for a number #1 retail slot. BAYONETTA is a huge title for us and the perfect start for the New Year, both for SEGA and gamers across Europe and America.”

Roughly translated, “we wanted our game to kick as much ass as possible and the second week in January was a much safer bet than having Bayonetta get swallowed up in between the launches of FIFA, Modern Warfare and Assassin’s Creed 2″

Still, the Japanese are a traditionally picky crowd and if they see fit to give Bayonetta perfect scores who are we to argue. I for one would like the chance to see if Bayonetta is a perfect as Famitsu believes it is (hint, hint SEGA)…
