Slated to become available this holiday season on every major platform from PC to handheld is the game that serves as a supplement to James Cameron’s upcoming scifi cgi flick, Avatar. We recently had the opportunity to review some FAQ’s answered by the game’s scriptwriter, Kevin Shortt. In it, Shortt goes into some of the storyline information that ties the game to the movie. Avatar: The Game takes place on Pandora two years prior to the movie timeline. He says, “We wanted an opportunity for fans to learn more about this beautiful world and the growing conflict between the RDA and the Na’vi.”

There is an extensive list of main characters in the game, as well as a few characters who appear in the movie as well. These include Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver), Trudy Chacon (Michele Rodriguez), and Commander Quaritch (Steven Lang). Able Ryder is the name of the Signals Specialist from Earth that you control. Your mission is to locate a sacred site that when controlled, will determine who controls the planet. Your decision in the game then becomes whether you will help the RDA or the Na’vi. Shortt says that the goal of the game is to make players choose their alignment based on their personal philosophies and emotions. In this way, game play will vary for everyone.
“When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium in search of valuable resources, and the Na’vi,” Shortt says, “gamers will find themselves thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.”
