Great Camo...
Order of War comes out this week. The game is Square Enix’s first western-developed WWII game for the PC. That’s right, Square Enix is putting out a game on the PC. This should be news! This is exciting! I mean, sure, its not one of their legendary RPGs. Its being co-developed by a website (Wargaming.net). Sadly, Order of War is being eclipsed by one of the most over-hyped franchises of all time…
Halo 3: ODST comes out this week. I will pause for the collective sigh of thousands of sheepish fanboys. This game represents the first Halo expansion that includes a nifty subtitle, which stands for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. The story follows one of the earlier mentioned Shock Troopers (think generic space marine), who is orbitally dropped behind enemy lines and is somehow surrounded by enemies (Big Surprise…). In an attempt to make “Master Chief” sound like a creative and inspired name, ODST puts you in the boots of the “Rookie”.
In the series that has become a flagship of the shooter genre, Bungie is re-introducing its “new” health system, similar to what was featured in the original Halo. Players no longer have to deal with that automatic regenerating health that is so unrealistic. Rather, the player must monitor a “health bar” which can be replenished by picking up “health packs”. Luckily these “health packs” are able to penetrate your armor much easier then enemy ammunition by simply being stepped on.
Multiplayer is the same as in Halo 3, but with a trio maps added to it. If you haven’t played Halo multiplayer, think of a slowed down version of Unreal Tournament, but without the player customization. Combat doesn’t amount to much more then run-n-gun, bunny hopping, and spray-n-pray action. The two things the game does right is keep track of player statistics and give the ability to save replays.
If you are into the Halo thing, you have probably already preordered ODST. If not, then I suggest just wait around for Modern Warefare 2. On the plus side, if your 360 has red-ringed while playing Halo 3, there is a ODST 360 Bundle. Whoop de freakin do.
