Since the dawn of the first person shooter, there has been Wolfenstein. Wolfenstein 3D is often given credit for the beginning of the popularity of first person shooters on the PC. Millions of Nazis have died in the name of the Wolfenstien series. Heck, even millions of Zombie Nazis have died in the name of Wolfenstein! Now, while modern shooters have evolved beyond killing just Nazis and Zombies (by including Aliens and Terrorists), all shooters owe a big debt of gratitude to the path paved by Wolfenstien.
This week, Activision is bringing Zombie-Nazis to the next console and PC generation. If you have missed blowing apart Nazi’s and their strange experiments, then this is your chance to do so, in high definition. Hitler is working on utilizing an alternative energy source known as “The Veil”, although it isn’t likely to be used to satisfy the needs of Al Gore. Instead it is being used to make super soldiers, which you get the pleasure of blowing to bits. Raven Software, which is working alongside the strained id Software team, specializes in making combat as brutal and gory as possible. Buckets of Nazi blood are sure to be spilled.
If your shooter needs are going unsatisfied, this is probably your best shot until Halo 3: ODST comes out next month, if your into that sort of thing, that is… Besides, when was the last time you got to kill Nazis? Zombies? Okay, you probably could have killed 10 of each during the time it took you to read this article, but that’s because its fun! Wolfenstein hits store shelves on Tuesday.
