Today Activision announced one of the sweetest deals in recent memory. Those who are planning to buy Guitar Hero 5 need to listen up! Everyone who pre-orders Guitar Hero 5 at the retailers listed here before October 31st, or buys specially marked copies of the game, will get Guitar Hero: Van Halen, mailed to them (perhaps even earlier than the actual release date) ABSOLUTELY FREE!
Let’s be honest here… the setlist to Van Halen (with the exception of Panama, Eruption, and others) is nothing to write home about. With this deal, you can make yourself feel like a frugal businessman, and hell, you can even sell the game to someone else if you don’t want it. However, if this deal sounds a bit too good to be true on Activision’s part, that’s because it is. There is one quite large caveat to this fantastic bargain: It will only be available to consumers residing in the United States. That’s right, Music fans in the U.K. (as well as everywhere else) are going to get screwed over yet AGAIN by Activision.
Even if you hate Van Halen, there is another reason to pre-order Guitar Hero 5: It is looking fucking great. After a hands-on with the final build of the game, members of ScoreHero (the most dedicated Guitar Hero/Rock Band website on the internet) gave the game a glowing preview, (found here). The highly respected member ImaCarrot went so far as to say, “I really don’t know how to explain it, but the engine just plain feels good, much better than any other Neversoft Guitar Hero game in my opinion.” Add in all the things covered there the new GHStudio 2.0, and you’ve got what is shaping up to be one of the most feature-heavy games since Timesplitters: Future Perfect. GH5 goes on sale September 1st.
