Ubisoft announces Heroes Over Europe

If ever there was an aspect of World War II that you’d think would be perfect fodder for video games, it would’ve been the aerial combat – the idea of flying aces known for their proficiency in taking down their enemies and given actual scores for their kills seems like something that the game designers of the present would be exploiting, especially since people just can’t get enough of World War II games, it seems. Ubisoft has seen this void and are filling it with Heroes Over Europe for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. This is actually a sequel to Heroes Over the Pacific, making it a rare World War II game to move from the Pacific to European theaters for a sequel, rather than the reverse.

The game, developed by Australian developers Transmission Games, will feature an “Ace Kill” close combat action system, online modes supporting up to 16 players, and aircraft with full customization and a localized damage system on the planes. If your plane explodes into a million pieces, it won’t matter where the damage was localized to, you’re probably dead. If this all sounds so exciting that you just can’t wait, well, too bad – the game doesn’t hit until September 2009. Until then, check out a fresh gallery of screenshots below, and keep an eye on Games Are Evil for more coverage of this upcoming dogfighting sim.
