King of Fighters XII releases this week and so this may be the last King of Fighters XII video before the Tuesday release of the title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This has be called the year of the fighting genre with many of the long running series releasing the next installment in their games. King of Fighters XII is the first of the series to release for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so this may be the make-or-break of the series on the console level.
With online multiplayer on both consoles, even though there are some differences between the two. Both versions have a lobby system with two gamers fighting it out while six players can wait to fight the winner. This is like a direct translation of the arcade “quarter-next” system that I used to use when playing other fighting games. Other options include winner/loser-gets-next or random matches. Like other titles, the game will keep track of stats.
The differences between the two systems are slight. PlayStation 3 can create clans and Xbox 360 can record/share matches. I wouldn’t be surprised at a patch that will unify the multiplayer differences.
