Steve Wiebe’s Failed Attempt

The battle that has been raging for years was once again revisited at this year’s E3. G4tv brought Steve Wiebe to LA’s Convention center to see if he could finally do some tea bagging of his own against Bill Mitchell (the current champion). However, after several failed attempts and one power outage, he bowed his head in shame and found his way of the stage, although I myself must say it was a valiant effort.

For those short-timers who are not familiar with Donkey Kong, I’ll fill you in on the controversy. The world title has been going back and forth between the two of them since around 2003, when Steve Wiebe got laid off from work and started playing Donkey Kong. His goal was to beat Billy Mitchell’s long standing 20-year world record of 874,300 points. Billy has recently topped his own score with a high score now of 1,050,200 at the kill screen or level 22 (the last level) on Donkey Kong.

With the failure of this recent attempt by Steve, everyone thought Billy was gloating when a mean spirited twitter showed up. Come to find out, Billy doesn’t even have a twitter account. Way to go with the fake twitter account.billy-mitchell-tweets-about-steve-wiebes-failed-world-record-attempt1

I truly believe that we have not heard the end of this almost marital-like spat, and it doesn’t help that we’ve got G4TV throwing fuel on the fire. It’s a great way to see two old school gamers showing us how it is done. Can’t wait for the next smack down.
