I am just going to call this one as an early entry into “Sleeper Hit of E3 09″. There it’s now recorded for all to see.

Mod Nation Racing, developed by United Front Games, is a game that builds (no pun intended) on the “Play. Create. Share” principle that Little Big Planet started. According to Jack Trenton “Play. Create. Share.” isn’t just a motto “it’s a new type of gaming genre.” Just like LBP this game will not only provide you with a fun game to play right from the start, but it will also give you the tools to basically create your own game. Consider it a mash-up of Little Big Planet and Mario Kart. Hopefully it will live up to the creative background that LBP has laid, as well as the sheer fun that Mario Kart has provided gamers for years.

Start off by making your very own stylized in game race car driver, that resemble those crazy Japanese toys all the kids are collecting. Then once you got that taken care of, move on to your car. Create one that fits your mood, or one that fits the driver, what ever you like. Take this driver and car through the in-game tracks alone or with friends. The specifics on track numbers, player cap, or really anything specific about the games release. The big part of the game they covered was the in game creator.

Make a track that you can play with friends online or off in literally minuets. The demo of the game showed how easy it is to make a simple track and then make it come alive. You have the ability to lay down the road, add in hazards, weapon pickups, even terraform the land around the track to fit whatever you want. Once you get to a point you want to check out your creation, simply hit a button and in seconds you can not only test it, you can play it with friends.
If this game backs up the chops that it showed at the E3 demo, this might just be a must have racer for all comers. It wasn’t specified if the game was going to be a “disc-based” game or if it would be a PSN download. Either way this will be one game I will be keeping my eyes on throughout the show and beyond. Add this one to the list of great titles coming in 2010.
