A CNET poll established to gauge readers’ anticipation for rival exclusives ‘Forza Motorsport 3′ and ‘Gran Turismo 5′ was closed early after numerous complaints of “bribes” being offered by Forza developer, Turn 10. The day after the poll was started, a thread appeared on the official Forza forums from Turn 10′s community manager; urging fans to vote for Forza Motorsport 3 in the poll in return for an in-game car which could be redeemed as DLC.
Now, while this was a bad decision on their PR’s behalf – I don’t really see this as an such an injustice as gaming communities such as N4G have been arguing. Cheating to get a little bit of recognition like this is not a good thing, don’t get me wrong, but considering the DLC offer was on the OFFICIAL FORZA FORUMS it’s hard to think that many readers would have voted otherwise. There is a happy end for Gran Turismo fans in the end, though – as despite the “corruption” and bribery, Gran Turismo still received more votes before the poll closed!
Needless to say, if this happened in politics – there wouldn’t be half the uproar us nerds can conjure. Though, I wonder…
