Xbox Live Community Games were an exciting prospect in the time leading up to the NXE update last year. Unfortunately, until now there have been very few commendable titles available on the service and more importantly; there’s no way of separating the few good titles floating in the sea of shovelware – unless you want to try all of them out that is.
Trino is trying to separate itself from the crowd. Sure it’s hero looks like an apostrophe with hemorrhoids but the development team have put a lot of effort into distinguishing itself positively through both professionally executed publicity pursuits (press releases, trailer and successful recognition by critics and publications) and creating one of the most finished, high-production value Xbox Live Community game currently available.
While the graphics resemble a mix between an R-Type game and Xbox Live hit, Geometry Wars – the gameplay incorporates elements from both of those (the fixed arena, arcade madness of Geometry Wars and the epic boss-fights and, er… arcade madness of R-Type) with old-school hit JezzBall. For all of you who may not remember JezzBall, here’s a gameplay vid – compare the core gameplay elements in Jezzball to the more dynamic version used by Trino as the method of defeating enemies. I don’t know about you, but this old-school gaming mash-up has certainly got my wallet scared.
Trino is out now and retails at 400 points. Try out the trial and let us know what you think.

Trino is really a lot of fun, but my addiction to Miner Dig Deeps is unwavering.
