Move Over Crayola: Max & the Magic Marker coming to the Wii

Press Play, a Copenhagen based game studio is making the switch from casual Flash games to physics based 2D platform games, the first being Max & the Magic Marker. Max & the Magic Marker combines good old platforming fun with the ability to draw using the Wii remote as the magic marker. Like magic, everything drawn becomes physical objects which help Max to complete levels and overcome challenges.

One day Max gets a mysterious orange marker in the mail. He decides to draw a monster. When he’s done,  the monster jumps off the paper and into the middle of Max’ room! The monster then jumps into other drawings in Max’s room, messing them up and creating havoc. Max realizes that he now needs to follow the monster to set everything right again. Max is controlled by the Wii nunchuck and the Wii remote controls the magic marker. Seems like the perfect game for Wii. Unless you happen to be going to E3, you’ll have to wait till this fall to play it when it is released on WiiWare.

Press Play believes the objective of the Max project is:
• To reinvent and celebrate the 2D platformer
• To make a game that you can play with – not just play
• To utilize the drawing mechanic in an speedy action game
• To make a game that is for everyone

We’re excited to see more from Press Play and Max & the Magic Marker. For now, here’s a video of how the game’s graphics and mechanics are shaping up.
