Madballs in Babo: Invasion, the soon to be XBLA shooter from development studio Playbrains, promises to bring gamers rich gameplay and feature laden “casually hardcore” action shooting. For those of you who were around in the ’80s (such as myself), you’ll remember the Madballs characters from the awesome toys that used to litter your living room floor.
Playbrains looks to bring your childhood back to life with MiBI, an arena based 3D shooter. Players are able to design their own maps almost instantaneously by placing a combination of map tiles to make a never-before-seen arena right before the game starts. Random user created maps should insure that no two games are the same, making players rely on shooting skill rather than knowledge of their surroundings.
The single player campaign will consist of ten “epic levels” that don’t have to be run solo. MiBI also supports up to 4 player co-op that will allow you to play the whole campaign in Enduro mode or if you prefer, individual levels. While teaming up with your friends sounds like a blast, the real fun will most likely be in the 16 player battles.
A range of modes await you online, starting out with Invasion Mode, which will have players taking turns placing tiles on the board to create a unique map. Avatar Attack uses your very own XBL Avatar in never before seen ways, where all players in the game will use their Avatar to battle with. Of course, there will also be a regular multiplayer battle mode, where players can choose from 21 maps that match all game sizes.
Five character archetypes will include Assault, Heavy, Runner, Flyer and Support. Among these five archetypes there will be ten character classes (each with two special abilities) over two warring factions. Each faction will have five unique weapons and each weapon will have two firing modes. On top of all of the options that are already before you, players will get deployables which include rocket turrets and healing towers that can be placed in Invasion Mode.
Get ready to play with your Madballs, looks like this title will be fast-paced action on the XBLA at its best!
