Do you hear that? It is the sound of a cow being milked.
Today, after remembering only Guitar Hero: Smash Hits was coming up, Activision announced 3 new “Hero” games. These are not just a few more band-specific titles, however. Neversoft, leaving no time to celebrate after Guitar Hero: Metallica, is now working on Guitar Hero 5 (alright), Band Hero (huh?), and DJ Hero (I’m leaving). There hasn’t been much detail regarding any of these titles, but here is what we DO know.
Guitar Hero 5
- Will feature drop-in-and-out gameplay, allowing band members to change their instruments and difficulty on the fly.
Band Hero (AKA NOT LEGO ROCK BAND)
- Rated E10+ by the ESRB (so no Slayer in here).
- From the Press Release : “Featuring top-40 hits designed to expand the experience to a new genre and appeal to a broad family audience who can play together on the guitar, drums, bass and microphone. The game builds upon Guitar Hero’s easy-to-play, difficult-to-master signature gameplay and allows novice players and expert fans to join together on their favourite songs.” (Read: This one is gonna be insanely easy).

DJ Hero
- I am being honest here, this actually exists.
- Seriously, it does.
From the Press Release “Expands Guitar Hero’s signature social gaming to all-new consumers with the addition of diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. Introducing an all-new innovative turntable controller, DJ Hero transforms players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world’s most exciting artists and DJs.” (According to this, DJ Hero= Amplitude + Dj Max Fever + the wierdest console input device you’ve ever seen.)
I hope Activision isn’t threatening Neversoft employee’s family members to get all these done and finished.
