As Reported on Destructoid, Microsoft is supposedly finalizing a new MMO model for Xbox Live which is said to allow LoTRO and other MMO online games work with the structure of Xbox live. Turbine, LoTRO’s development team, responded to the rumors about the possibility of their MMO heading to Xbox Live. A company spokesperson confirmed they are in fact working on an MMO for the next generation consoles but did not comment on the Lord of The Rings Online rumor. They had this to say:
“We won’t comment on rumors but it’s no secret that we’ve been deep in development for some time on an MMO for the next-generation consoles. While I won’t discuss specific titles, I will confirm that we are incredibly excited about what we have accomplished and strongly believe that the console market is ready for the massively connected social gaming experience that Turbine provides. The first parties share this belief and have been great partners to work with as we get ready for the next major evolution of the platform.“
I for one am more excited about this than I was when I got my first playboy, not so much for LoTRO but for Xbox Live working on a model that will allow other MMO’s to be introduced in the future. It’s no secret that the console market offers next to nothing in this genre which happens to be a personal favorite of mine. If done correctly this could be HUGE for Microsoft sales of the 360, bringing gamers who want to get a taste of the MMO experience without having to buy or upgrade their respective computers.
Let us pray to the gaming gods that this new model Xbox Live is preparing, won’t force gamers to pay for Xbox Live AND a monthly subscription to the MMO’s that will be introduced to the console.
