Batman: Arkham Asylum gives players a unique adventure in the Batman universe that takes them into the depths of Arkham Asylum, Gotham City’s psychiatric hospital for insane criminals. Players will move through the shadows, put fear in their enemies and confront the Joker and more of Gotham City’s infamous villains who have taken control the prison. Using a wide range of Batman’s gadgets and abilities, players will take on the role of the Dark Night himself and put a stop the Joker’s demented plan.
A new look at Batman: Arkham Asylum has been released showcasing one of game modes affectionately dubbed “Silent Knight Challenge Mode” in which you play as batman and are tasked with taking down a number of the Jokers henchmen as quickly and quietly as you can while completing certain take downs that meet your objectives.
As one of the developers is quick to point out, batman is not super human so players have to rely on all the advantages they have to take out his enemies since they know your coming but are unaware of where or how you’ll be making your entrance. This particular game mode is all about using the advantages Batman has over his opposition including his gadgets, intelligence, and ability to plan and strike from the shadows. With no set patrol paths for Jokers’ thugs, every time you play will be a different and dynamic experience. With advanced AI the henchmen will spread out and form patrol paths to find and engage you. To counter this, your goal is to pick them off one by one as they isolate themselves from the rest of their group. As the video shows, situational awareness (in this game mode) is key. If you attack a thug who is too close to the others you risk being engaged and boxed in by the dynamic AI and then its time to hit that retry button.
Batman: Arkham Asylum is coming to the table boasting wicked awesome graphics, a completely original story written by Paul Dini (the man behind Batman: The Animated Series as well as the first season of Lost) and incredibly immersive game play that will surely give the “superhero genre” a new breath by pushing the envelope of action and adventure. If you haven’t already put your pre order down for this, do it ASAP, the only thing cooler than stomping on bad guys heads as Batman, is doing it in a game that is actually good. With a long list of less than impressive Batman titles, Arkham Asylum is sure to bring much excitement to a place that couldn’t need it more. Look for this to hit shelves this June with just as much punch as Batman himself.
