Well, this time it’s not the game itself that’s raising controversy, and in all reality, it could have been any game, but it is quite the coincidence that it happened to be our loved Grand Theft Auto, being drug into the fire once again.
A father, Mr. Thornhill, found ecstasy in a used copy of GTA IV. Which leaves us all wondering why the people over at Gamestation, where the game was purchased, didn’t check the contents of the video game case before turning around and selling it. Mr. Thornhill, obviously upset, had this to say;
“When I opened the box up, the cling film wrap fell out. I could not believe it. I have two children and my son plays Xbox all the time. He could easily have opened the box and found them. I dread to think what the consequences would have been if he had. He is only 12. He could have died.”
Upon hearing the complaint that Mr. Thornhill had, Gamestation had this to say;
“We have rigorous procedures for accepting pre-owned titles and checking them before they are put back on sale. We have launched an immediate investigation and we will work closely with police to find out what happened in this instance. It would be inappropriate to comment further until the police investigation is complete.”
Ecstasy is linked to about 30 deaths per year, which makes it even scarier for parents out there buying used games. Police are looking further into this case to see if they can track down the gamer that brought them into the store. Parents, make sure you check all used games you buy before your kids get ahold of them.
