Welcome back to the Dammit Game of the Week for another dose of time wasting. This week’s game is Music Catch 2 by Reflexive Entertainment. Sounds boring doesn’t it? No, you don’t actually chase after music stars like a rabid pack of teenage girls after the Jonas Brothers. Instead, the game is almost relaxing in nature. No screaming girls, no loud music (unless you put it in), no need for concentration. This is ideal for those of us who have some high stress jobs or tend to try to take on too many things at once.
The whole premise of the game is collect as many music notes (or the other shapes that you are later on introduced to) as you can. The notes fall/move/appear to the rises and falls of the music. The louder/faster/more notes you hear, the more notes you will see. Yellow notes(shapes) are good, red are bad, and other colors… well they aren’t bad, but you’ll have to try it out yourself.
As you beat stages, you unlock more music, shapes, colors, patterns, and motions which you can then use to create your own scenario by mixing them. Probably the coolest thing is the fact you can add your own music in to replace the piano, which are all cool pieces in themselves, but are so mellow they make you fall asleep.
Just a word of advice, try to make sure the music has a change of pace (ebbs and flows). I found that most “rock” songs work, but tend to give you a steady stream. Since all you need is to waggle your mouse (or touch pad), there are no annoying clicks for your boss (or professor) to catch, so give Music Catch 2 a try.
There is a Music Catch (1), but number 2 is much more fun.
