Our lineup last week featured a trio of games, one of the WiiWare variety and two retro remembrances. This week there are only 2 downloads, but as is normally the case with these announcements, it is not always as much about quantity as it is quality. Monday’s releases are sure to be both eclectic and exciting, so lets take a look at what we have in store.
WiiWare
Bonsai Barber – If you have always had dreams of being a hairdresser, then this may be the game for you. In what is ironically being described as a “first-person-groomer”, the player is tasked with cutting the “hair” of numerous follicly challenged fruits and vegetables. You can even snap photos of your favorite cuts and share them with your friends using WiiConnect24 and the Photo Channel.
Featuring twelve different characters and countless different hairstyles, you should be busy clipping for days to come. The game will be available for 1000 Nintendo Points ($10.00 USD.)
Currently there is no footage available for the game, so keep that in mind if you are considering picking this one up.
Virtual Console
Super Punch-Out!! – Really, there is nothing that should be need to be said on this classic. The sequel to mega-hit Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, this Super Nintendo gem flawlessly made the jump to the 16-bit console, while preserving what made the original so great. Abandoning the burden of having to deal with celebrity endorsements, Punch-Out set itself apart from the rest of the field by focusing on intriguing gameplay and innovations that could only be accomplished using the next generation of console technology.
There is nothing more fun then going toe-to-toe with the most characterized lineup of boxers ever to be dropped to the mat. The game will be available for 800 Nintendo Points ($8.00 USD.)
If you are still crazy enough to have doubts, check out this video of the game:
These are the weeks when it is great to be a Nintendo fan. Obviously fueled by the furor surrounding the new Punch-Out rehash shown at GDC 2009, it looks like they decided to remind us what made the series so special. Here’s to hoping that there is much more of this variety fan service down the road.
