This Week in Wii – Downloadable Edition

Last week we had a heavy dose of Commodore 64 goodness with an emphasis on fighting games. It looks like this week they are going to pull the reins back a bit and share a retro Super Nintendo Battle game and a heaping helping of WiiWare Mini-games.  So buckle up because here are the details:

WiiWare

family-friends-partyFamily & Friends Party – Structured as a digital board game, Family and Friends Party is a game that consists of completing a barrage of different tasks and minigames, in an all-out throw down for console supremacy.  Featuring six different challenges that are bound to keep the variety hot, up to eight players can participate in this title for the whole family.  The game will be available for purchase for 1000 Nintendo Points ($10.00).

I don’t like to editorialize in a preview post, but there is no gameplay footage available for this game.  That may be an indication of the quality of the product…

Virtual Console

ogrebattleOgre Battle™: The March of the Black Queen™ – Who doesn’t love a trip back to the age of the Super Nintendo?  Fans of classic Enix dungeon crawlers will love this piece of retro gold.  If nothing else, this is a game that you should pick up for its rarity.  Supposedly there were only twenty-five thousand copies of the game ever produced, making it the perfect candidate to be finally shared with the masses at a much more reasonable price of 800 Nintendo Points ($8.00).

If you are still on the fence, maybe some gameplay footage would win you over:

I hate to complain about a constant stream of new games, but where are more of the interesting and experimental WiiWare games that we were promised?  Nothing against a Mario Party clone, but if I am going to spend my money, you better bet that it would need to grab my attention quickly.  Well as always, better luck next week I guess…
