With the previous two Incredible Hulk games under their belt, it’s no surprise that Radical Entertainment (interestingly one of gaming legend Sierra’s two remaining studios) have been chosen to develop Prototype; the open world Super Anti-Hero game which aims to blow your mind, and favorite platforms (PC, 360, PS3) this June.
There are a number of reasons that, if done right, this could be the ultimate action game – and Prototypes new trailer aims to both remind you of the game’s impending release date and tell you a little about why you should part with some of your hard earned.
Pretty sweet, right? So what have we learned from this trailer? First of all, I think we’ve learned that we want this game! We want this game because, not only does it have awesome original ideas, but it also combines and improves upon some of the best gameplay features seen in recent games to form some sort of “Greatest Hits” medley of the gaming format.
Let’s take a look at some of the awesome features Prototype has borrowed from its gaming brethren:
- Mercenaries 2 – Ridiculous level of firepower, allowing the player to be the proud person responsible for an irresponsible amount of carnage. Also vehicle hijackings and vehicular combat (mid-air helicopter hijackings in particular) reminiscent of those found in the Mercenaries games.
- The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction - Unsurprisingly, Prototype looks in some ways like an evolution of this Hulk game, which was also developed by Radical Entertainment. The player movement controls as well as projectile combat (hello throwing fighter jets at tanks) look strikingly similar to those found in TIH: UD and we say, that’s not a bad thing.
- Destroy All Humans - The ability to dynamically take the form of an NPC in a game is not a completely original concept as was seen in the Destroy All Humans series. While Destroy All Humans had you tiptoeing around the wrong people though, Prototype allows the player a lot more power – having NPCs react realistically to your disguise, without suspicion.
- The Darkness - We couldn’t possibly comment on Prototype’s design influences without referencing comic-book videogame adaptation The Darkness, with the Anti-Hero’s badass kill-em-all nature and grim tentacles – all forced upon him as he takes revenge on those who made him the nutcase killer he is now.
All of these influences combined should make for one hell of an action game. What are your reactions upon seeing the trailer? Any influences we didn’t spot which you’d like to add?
