After weeks of rumors and speculation over a new Resident Evil title coming to the Wii, Capcom has finally decided to reveal their latest project, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
Darkside Chronicles is the sequel to Umbrella Chronicles and will take place in Raccoon City during Resident Evil 2. Players will take control of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield to blast their way through the masses of the undead in this, “On the Rails” shooter.
Producer Masachika Kawata at Capcom and producer Kentaro Noguchi at Cavia said about the project, “The reason the game is not called Umbrella Chronicles 2, is that the enemy is no longer Umbrella Corporation. Additionally, the term “darkside” can be taken to mean that the game will provide a look at some of the unexplored areas of the RE story, along with the darker passages of the characters’ histories . The game will also have more of a horror taste than the first.”
Kawata and Noguchi also confirmed that scenes and characters from the other Resident Evil games would also make an appearance, including Shelly Birkin of RE2. They also wanted to make it clear that even though Darkside Chronicles is the same general concept as Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside will feel new and different giving the “feeling of being there.”
Up to now RE: Darkside Chronicles is only 35% complete and has no indication of a release date, but as soon as Capcom release more details, we’ll let you know.
This is good news for Wii owners even if it isn’t RE5.
