Today Microsoft announced that, since Halo Wars’ release in Asia on February 26, it has sold one million copies worldwide. This makes it the best selling Real Time Strategy game on any current generation console.
For those of you who have missed this Xbox 360 exclusive, Halo Wars is set 20 years before the original Halo. Players get the chance to take command of the UNSC and guide them to victory in more epic battles against the Covenant.
According to halowars.com, which is has been ran by Robot Entertainment since the demise of Ensemble Studios, Halo Wars has clocked up more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches, resulting in over 118 years worth of play time online.
This is a fantastic outcome for the now ex-Ensemble team, showing that they will forever be remembered as pioneers of the RTS genre. This could also be the beginning of a higher interest in RTS on consoles, but we have no doubt that the PC will never be overcome by consoles as RTS’ definitive platform.
