The Dead Shall Rise Again

Capcom has confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is in development for three different platforms; Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC. Dead Rising 2, in the words of Capcom, will;

“take the franchise to a new level of zombie killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies..”

While thousands of zombies sounds like a good enough reason to check out this sequel, it will be host to the all-new gambling paradise of Fortune City. Players will be able to explore and conquer all of this zombie haven, as well as collect new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie horde. That is if you can stay away from the slot machines that will surely litter this gambling town.

Set several years after the zombie invasion that consumed the town of Willamette, the virus has returned. Unfortunately it seems like this infestation can’t be contained and has begun to spread throughout the United States depicting a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike. As it continues to spread across the US that can only make us wonder, what city will be next? Could Capcom introduce new towns as DLC in the future?

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. While some fans of the original may worry about the new development team, there will be a number of members from the original Dead Rising team that work alongside Blue Castle Games, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game’s Producer will play an active role in the project. That should help put your worries at ease.

For those of you unfamiliar with Dead Rising, it was released in 2006 and won much praise throughout the global gaming community for its mix of zombie action and dark humor. Dead Rising also garnered numerous awards including Spike TV Video Game Awards’ “Best Action-Adventure Game” for 2006. Now sure seems like a good time to grab it and freshen up on your zombie killing skills!
