PSN Hits 20 Million Worldwide

psnSony Computer Entertainment Inc. announced today that the cumulative number of registered accounts on PlayStation Network worldwide has exceeded 20 million as of February 20, 2009. The registered accounts on PlayStation Network reached 5 million users in only one year and two months, then moved on to 10 million in one year and eight months, and has now exceeded 20 million in only two years and three months since the serviced launched in Japan on November 11, 2006. The PSN sure is growing fast and seeing how it’s free for all players, there is no reason not to sign up for it.

Some of the other numbers Sony is tossing out there this morning include PlayStation Home, which has now exceeded 4 million users in less than two months. While Home remains somewhat of a disappointment for some gamers, it is starting to pick up momentum and constantly adding new features, spaces and functions.

Additionally the number of users on Life with PlayStation has increased as well. For those of you who have yet to experience Life with PlayStation, 2.6 million other users out there have been enjoying information on their TVs by connecting to the network via PS3.  Sony plans to add more channels to increase the content and “broaden the world of entertainment beyond the realms of games that is made possible through connecting PS3′s vast computational power to the network,” as Sony says.

Sony also stated, “SCE, along with content providers and users will continue to further expand the entertainment experiences with PS3, PSP and PlayStation Network to create a new world of computer entertainment.”

Congrats to 20 million Sony, we’re all looking forward to the future of the PlayStation Network.
