MLB Standout Slims Down With Wii Fit

As the debate wages on over whether Wii Fit is actually able to live up to the promises it makes, Major League Baseball pitcher Heath Bell has stepped up to the plate in its defense.  Bell spent most of the off season playing video games with his children.  One day he stepped on the Wii Fit and realized his weight had reached 270 pounds.  “It said I was obese,” Bell told The Philadelphia Inquirer.  “If you’re obese, it makes [your Mii] obese.  I was disappointed that I was that big.  I literally took the game to heart.  I did the work but I kind of credit the Wii Fit.”

Saturday, Bell showed to camp 25 pounds lighter.  Unfortunately, he failed to mention if he had lost the weight by using Wii Fit or if Wii Fit merely made him realize he needed to shed some pounds.  Considering that Bell is a closer for the San Diego Padres, and therefore only plays a couple innings per game, it’s not entirely unlikely that he could loose the weight with the Wii Fit.  The less activity you’re used to getting, the more affect exercise will have once you begin a routine.

I was discussing our previous article titled Improper Strokes Hurting Wii Players? with a coworker.  He told me that a friend of his had lost 30 pounds just using the Wii Balance Board and Wii Fit.  His friend had previously led an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle and any activity was beneficial for him and made a measurable change in his body.  While Wii Fit should not be seen as some sort of fitness guru, part of Wii Fit’s success may be that many people are glad that there is now an alternative way to play video games. Just sitting on the couch is no longer the only option.
