By now most of you gamers out there know who Frank West is, and for those of you who don’t, Frank West is a bad ass photo journalist who has no fear of the dead and wants to make some cash by taking some sweet shots of oozing brains and cannibalism. Dead Rising introduced players to Frank and so much more.
Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop puts players in the center of a playground straight out of hell. With zombies crowding a small town mall, it’s up to Frank to discover the source of the evil infection and save the day. While that may sound a little cliche, minus the zombies of course, the freedom given to players really opens up new doors. Players will have full reign of a realistic shopping center and its varied stores offering an endless supply of real and makeshift weapons to fight off the flesh hungry mob. Anything and everything is a weapon in Dead Rising, from a gun, to a bench, to a stuffed animal. This is no survival horror game where players hide from their enemies, too scared to leave a safe room. This is an all out brawl, leaving players anxious to try out a new weapon on the undead.
In the end though, Frank West is still a photo journalist trying to make the big scoop on the epidemic. So you’ll be using your camera quite a bit to take both gruesome and hilarious pictures throughout your chopping adventure. The game is split into a series of individual cases which must be solved in order to gain the information that will piece together the truth and your front page story. Players will also need to use the time in between, and occasionally throughout missions, to save survivors that are stuck in the mess. Sometimes Frank simply wont have enough time to rescue someone unless players have spectacular zombie chopping skills, and when we say “chopping skills”, we’re serious!
The Wii will take full advantage of motion controls, from aiming while you shoot to swinging baseball bats and golf clubs, you wont stop moving the entire time you’re playing it. Brings new meaning to the title “Chop Til You Drop” doesn’t it? I’m willing to bet that after some serious game nights players are going to be in top shape or flat out living dead. While this has potential to be an amazing feature, it could also be a knife in the back, as some gamers simply might not be able to keep up. Looks like Wii Fit may have some competition.
The bottom line for anyone new to Dead Rising is comedy. Grabbing huge toy heads and putting them on zombies, trying out clothing that should probably not be worn by any self respecting man, attacking a horde with a teddy bear, the list goes on and on. There are many things to look forward to with Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop and the Wii controls seem very promising even if exhausting.
Capcom has garnered much support for their shopping blowout, even that of the Japanese punk band “GaGaGa.” As can be seen here in the latest video release for Chop Til You Drop:
Capcom always brings out the best in gamers, and they hit a home run with the original Dead Rising. Hopefully they can recapture that with Chop Til You Drop, and bring gamers together once again, to kill zombie hordes in hilarious fashion. Either way, it’s nice to see the Wii getting some quality time with zombies.
