Has Konami lost their marbles? Actually, they found them! Announcing their first game for the Wii Balance Board, Konami brings us Marbles! Balance Challenge (MBC).

MBC is a skill-based action title in which players will help an Ant called Anthony save his colony through a series of physical tests. These tests will include 100 specially-created stages where players will steer a ball using the shifting weight of their physical movements. “This unique way to control the game offers a new experience and combines fun and physical exercise,” says Konami. Players will also be able to use the Wii Remote to steer the ball through 200 different stages in a quest to locate the ‘Golden Sunflower Seed’.

Progression will increase the complexity of the levels and introduce new environments such as houses, snow-capped mountains, deserts, watery settings and even a space station. But players wont be simply rolling from start to finish, they’ll also have to collate parts needed to extend and repair the roads of which they traverse, which will help players access the final stage. Other items can also be collected and used to add new elements to the edit mode.

Edit mode allows players to create their own stages and share them with friends online via the Nintendo Wii Connect24 service. Other modes also include up to four player battles where players must race to the finish, while their scores can be recorded online so everyone can see their place in the leaderboards.

Konami’s first stab at the Wii Balance Board looks good so far, though the story seems irrelevant, the gameplay looks to be solid, and with a release date set for April of ’09, there should be plenty of time to make this marble shine.
