Gears of War: The Movie

What!? Could it be true? According to Bloody-Disgusting, it is true! BD had the chance to chat with Underworld creator and producer Len Wiseman about his upcoming adaptation of Gears of War.

Wiseman revealed to BD that he’s directing Gears of War along side co-writer Chris Morgan (Wanted, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious.) Wiseman also revealed that he isn’t much of a gamer, in fact, he’s not a gamer at all. While this should be somewhat concerning to fans of the series, he actually bought a 360 to do a little “research”.

“I suck at video games, it just takes me too long and I can’t get the coordination of ‘em. When I was on [Live Free Or] Die Hard, I had to choose some video game for the background in a scene with Kevin Smith. I was shown about a dozen games and told to ‘Choose one to be in the background’ and I said ‘this one looks really, really cool whatever it is,’ and it was Gears of War. I just really connected with it; the design of it, the world, the whole thing. So I actually bought an Xbox 360 to start researching what it was.” -Len Wiseman

Wiseman hopes to tell the Gears of War story across a trilogy stating, “The hope is that we’re wanting to do three movies and really cover the bases on everything. Basically a harder edged Lord of the Rings.”

The thought of a Gears movie sends chills down my spine. In all honesty I don’t know whether to be excited or worried about this one. The games turned movies that I have seen in the past have been total disasters, so here’s to hoping Wiseman can get it right!
