Electronic Arts’ Casual Entertainment division stated that they have signed an agreement with Wiley Publishing to bring games based on the “For Dummies” how-to books to PC and Nintendo DS.
EA will be working with London’s Beanbag Studios to develop these games that will teach would-be gamers how to play. Titles so far include Solitaire For Dummies, Brain Training For Dummies, Sudoku For Dummies, and additional titles to be announced. Anyone interested in playing Poker can head over to EA’s casual site, where Poker For Dummies is currently available.
The Nintendo DS will get Travel Games For Dummies which will have tutorials and gameplay for solitaire, sudoku, and crossword puzzles. Which should come in handy for any gamer looking to drag in that one friend who keeps their distance from the complications of gaming. John Hislop, associate director of brand licensing of Wiley Publishing said, “We hope the For Dummies games will reach new users and provide existing users with an exciting new way to learn.”
“Players begin learning the basics, such as rules and vocabulary, through a simple tutorial mode. Then, they participate in practice mode where a coach guides them along offering tips and advice. Finally, when they are ready, players engage in game play on their own, putting their new skills to use,” describes EA Casual Entertainment.
With any luck this will be yet another tool to help get all of those non-gamers to conform. Let’s just hope this doesn’t open the door for even more shovelware, as there is plenty of that to go around these days.
