We all know that movie based games have a tendency to end in disaster, so you can forgive us when we look at Activision’s new action-adventure title X-Men Origins: Wolverine with something approaching worry. While the idea of playing as one of the most famous of super heroes with the ability to have real time healing sounds amazing, and the ability to deal massive damage with in depth combo attacks makes us giddy with anticipation, we can’t help but be cautious. The game intends to take you from Wolverines’ escape of the Weapon X facility to the jungles of Africa and will take you through the movie experience and further into the X-Men world that will not be seen in the upcoming film.
“We have an amazing team with Raven Studios at the helm, creating what will undoubtedly be the quintessential, true-to-character Wolverine video game experience that fans have been craving,” said Rob Kostich, vice president of Activision Publishing, Inc. “X-Men Origins: Wolverine amps up the action by bringing to life Wolverine’s wholly unique skills such as his brute strength, regenerative mutant abilities, and indestructible adamantium claws and skeleton in an immersive experience that is fitting to one of the most enduring and popular characters of all time.”
If Activision can break the ritual of movie games being about as fun as getting bamboo shoots under the fingernails then this could be a game worth getting. We’ll keep an eye on this one for you guys and let you know if they succeeded where others have failed when X-Men Origins: Wolverine launches in May 2009.
