Trine is a fantasy action game, created by Frozenbyte, where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil. Each character has a different ability that helps battle the army of undead and pass devious contraptions. Players will be able to switch freely between three characters throughout gameplay;
- The Wizard, who is able to summon objects to help solve puzzles and create new ways to overcome obstacles
- The Thief, who uses her agility and accuracy to swiftly surprise the un-dead army
- The Warrior, who can unleash mayhem and physical destruction wherever he goes
Players will have to utilize each of the characters abilities to overcome the obstacles that are set forth. Many of the puzzles that will be seen in Trine involve quick thinking and twitch reflexes. To witness truly innovative gameplay at its best, watch this quick trailer and see for yourself what you can expect while playing Trine.
Frozenbyte is an independent game developer focused on original IP based console and PC games, best known for their top-down PC shooter Shadowgrounds. With great success following the release of both Shadowgrounds and its sequel Shadowgrounds Survivor, Frozenbyte is hard at work on the upcoming PSN title Trine. Due out by the second quarter of 2009, Trine will be the companies’ first ever PlayStation Network Title, and they couldn’t be more excited about it. “Trine is a true testament to Frozenbyte’s new strategy focusing on original IP. We can’t wait to have the game released on the PlayStation Network and PC,” said Lauri Hyvarinen, CEO of Frozenbyte, and he continued, “Nobilis has been a great partner to us all these years and we look forward to combining our efforts even more closely to make a great game!”
Not only is this the first game on the PSN for Frozenbyte, this is also the first PSN title for Nobilis. “This is the first game we publish on the PlayStation Network and we are thrilled to work with Frozenbyte on this very exciting game project!” exclaimed Arnaud Blacher, CEO of Nobilis Group. While Nobilis is new to the PSN, they are by no means new to gaming, having published games on PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PC.
As Trine nears launch on the PSN and PC we’ll be keeping a close eye on it, hoping that the elements seen here can hold up throughout development. If so, then Frozenbyte may have created a truly amazing game.
