Rebecca Mayes is the first of a series of new creative contributors who are engaging with videogames in new ways. While she is new to the gaming world, she is bringing a fresh view on gaming through music.
While the “Musical Review” is far from what any gamer would call a review, it has a unique take on gaming that’s very relatable. Rebecca is new to games all together, stating that “Gaming is a mysterious world to me and I stand on the edge and look into it like Alice at the entrance to Wonderland.” So why do we want to hear from a random person who is new to gaming and doesn’t understand the things that us gamers do? Because these songs are unbiased and completely open thoughts on games in general.
There are many people out there (everybody knows at least one) who are afraid to get into gaming because they don’t understand a thing about it. Many potential gamers are being lost every generation, simply because they just don’t get it. Well, Rebecca is one such person who decided to take the plunge into gaming. Rebecca said in her own words, “I jumped into the black hole and found myself lost in a place I don’t understand. It is a place full of spectacle and phenomena which feeds my imagination. In many ways I represent all the people who know nothing about games, who are uninspired and uninterested in games. As such, I’m not sure whether I’m particularly welcome here. The way I look at computer games is nothing like an ordinary gamer would look at them. My ‘reviews’ are naive, ridiculous observations that only someone totally inexperience could make.”
Well Rebecca, on behalf of GamesAreEvil I’d like to welcome you to the world of gaming. These “reviews” if you so choose to call them, could very well be the missing link needed to push people into gaming. All of the ordinary gamers out there who are looking for a way to get the friend or loved one into gaming and just haven’t found a way, may have some light at the end of the tunnel now thanks to you.
