Suikoden tells the story about the son of great General Teo McDohl. Teo is called away to fight in the northlands, leaving his son back at home with family and friends who have been tasked with watching over him as he begins his career in the Imperial Army. Only days after his entrance into the army does our hero realize the corruption that has consumed the empire. This knowledge will eventually lead to the culmination of a rebel force so fierce that it could possibly overthrow the ruthless empire.

Konami’s epic RPG Suikoden revolutionized the way people looked at the JRPG. For the first time players were able to recruit up to a grand total of 108 characters, creating an army of followers to take down the Empire. With so many characters it was hard to believe that every one was added through a simple chance encounter and still managed to have a full backstory. As players add to their army, they’ll notice a change in the way Suikoden plays. Gameplay was that of traditional console RPGs, with random encounters triggering combat and a turn based fighting system. The immediate party includes six characters, however there are sequences where the player’s whole rebel group must fight in an all out war.

Suikoden was an amazing RPG for its time and has even been compared to the likes of Final Fantasy VII. At $5.99, this is a steal, and a must have for any RPG fan.
