Konami’s 1996 coin-op is landing on consoles with all new HD visuals and widely expanded gameplay elements. GTI Club+ will be an exclusive title for the Playstation Store and is set to release on the 4th of December. Developed by SUMO Digital Entertainment, this marks the first next gen game for Konami’s European Product Planning department.
SUMO Digital Entertainment promises to bring all the content and add-ons that are expected of a next gen title with GTI Club+ (GTI). Boasting incredible visuals and a great sense of speed, GTI will run at 720p at 60 frames per second. Customisation will come in the form of paint jobs and decals, making sure your car is one of a kind on these beautiful tracks.
The arcade classic only had four cars to choose from. This time around there will be five distinctly different licensed cars; Austin Mini Cooper, Renault 5, Fiat A112 Abarth, Lancia Delta and the VW Golf GTI. While we would have liked to see more, we’re happy with the selection here. GTI Club from the 1996 arcade was fun and frantic to play even with four cars and we surely aren’t expecting any less with five.
Intense races are sure to be found when GTI drops, as players need to use timed handbrake turns and hidden short cuts to beat the competition. Speaking of competition, players will be able to take this one online with their friends via the Playstation Network. Unlike some of the other PSN titles out there, players will have full voice communication with other gamers while online. But the battle for first place wont be the only captivating aspect of online play. Bomb Tag will have players attempting to destroy one another in an explosive chase mode, utilizing the Playstation Eye, ensuring that you catch the look on your adversaries face when you eradicate them.
Sat Nav systems have been added so you’ll know where your competition is at all times. Also helping you traverse the open terrain, as these courses are wide open and quite large. You’ll also be able to watch all of your intense racing moments in dizzying replays with 5.1 surround sound that includes a remix of the original coin-op’s music by Atjazz. With all of these upgrades and a full set of modes, including Free Run, Arcade and Bomb Tag, GTI truly sets the new standard for downloadable titles. Konami has also committed to expanding the game via regular updates and content downloads.
“GTI Club+ brings the fun back to racing games and offers incredible value for money,” commented Dave Cox, Head of Product Planning for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “It is the most ambitious and expansive addition to the Playstation Network to date, and brings one of the most exciting coin-ops of yesteryear bang up to date with stunning HD visuals, and new in-game elements and the ability to add new elements to keep the gameplay fresh.” If GTI can live up to this hype, we can’t wait Dave.
