Sacred 2 Fallen Angel: RPG Heaven?

10 Comments 05 November 2008

While all of us here at GamesAreEvil anticipate a run through on this colossus, we have a slick and rather gory vid to get you pumped up about this hopefully stellar release. Following that, please welcome our newest game junkie Cory Appleton to the stage, for a bit of background, and a great introduction to Sacred 2.

Sacred was originally developed by Studio II Software & Ascaron Entertainment and published in 2004 by Encore. This PC only action-RPG took place in a magical land called Ancaria where heroes searched for elements to destroy the Sakkara Demon and return their land to peace.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (S2:FA) brings you back to Ancaria with a new struggle. T-Energy, the source of all life and magic in Ancaria, is being used to dominate the world by the High Elves. A power struggle ensues and the T-Energy becomes unstable. Turning into a destructible force that mutates creatures and destroys whole cities. You must set out to continue the chaos and destruction or stop the T-Energy from destroying all of Ancaria.

S2:FA is looking to bring the excitement of exploration and dungeon crawling to your console. But wait, hasn’t this been done before?  Yes, it has, but Sacred 2 has made a contribution to this genre for console owners: “drop-in” cooperative multiplayer. Not only can you run through the entire game with a friend. You can jump in at any time and not skip a beat. We all know co-op makes everything better!

To top that off, Blind Guardian, the heavy hitting, long haired metal band. Will be fronting the music behind S2:FA. Blind Guardian has been around since the late 80’s and has quite a lineup of smash hits. So while you’re stomping around and slashing up demons, you should have plenty of motivation pulling you through your speakers.

Ascaron Entertainment is bringing quite a bit to the table this time around. You have an entire world at your fingertips. Seamlessly woven together for hours upon hours of exploration, monumental battles, and bloodcurdling dungeons. S2:FA is a very ambitious title and if they can pull it off, this could be one of the greatest RPGs ever made.

In this world you will choose one of six distinct entities:

  • Seraphim- Embodies all that is good (can only play the light path*)
  • Shadow Warrior- An elite warrior unwillingly brought back to life after dying on the battlefield
  • High Elf- Student of magic, fresh out of the academy eager to explore
  • Dryad- Proficient at ranged combat, nature magic and voodoo
  • Temple Guardian- Cyborg canine creature- adept at mechanical and technological arts
  • Inquisitor- Embodies all that is evil (can only play the shadow path*)

Along with a character, you must choose one of two paths to delve into. The “Light” path, which as you can imagine is the good side. Or the “Shadow” path, which is embodied by evil. The story branches across these two campaigns of good and evil, also containing an individual story for each character. With two full campaigns and six possible stories, this game screams replayability!

Each character is completely customizable. From the armor, to the weaponry, even down to the combat styles themselves. As you progress through the game you will be faced with many decisions that can affect how your character advances his skills. The combat system is modifiable as well. Which means you can tweak your alter ego to your hearts desire!

What would any open world RPG be without mounts? There are unique mounts that you can acquire for each class. Combat has supposedly been specially formated to control with ease while on your mount. This is a good thing to hear seeing how other games of this genre can become clunky while on mounts. These mounts can also be used to travel across Ancaria at a much faster pace. Making sure you’re never too far from the action.

Welcome, CrAppleton! Great article. I’m wondering if it would be possible to create an evil character and choose a “light” path? Would that rock, or what?

  2. CrAppleton says:

Well, that’s one awsome aspect of this game. You can choose whichever path you want with your character. Seraphim and Inquisitor however don’t allow you to choose which side you fight on. Which is understandable seeing how their descriptions set the stage for you. So if you consider any of the other classes Evil, which seeing how the High Elves are dominating the planet you could assume they are border line, then yeah.. you can.

You’re forgetting probably the best part of this game. Blind Guardian supplied some music for it. For me, that makes this game a must buy.

  4. CrAppleton says:

Oh man.. how could I forget that!?

Hansi Kursch reffered to Sacred 2 as a “..dream come true..”

For those of you who don’t know. Blind Guardian is a metal band that has been around MANY years, since the 80’s to be exact. Think of the good old long haired metal bands!

That is a plus! Thanks for pointing that out Canvas!

  5. CrAppleton says:

Done and done.. Thanks again Canvas

  6. Canvas_Of_Flesh says:

Very nice article. Great job. I’m not too sure why this game isn’t getting a little more hype than it is, but hopefully your article will help with that.

Sounds like this game could 1up Fable 2.
