Once again the PlayStation Portable is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the Japanese market. According to statistics shown over on PSPFanboy.com, the PSP has almost more sales then all three current generation consoles, the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS COMBINED! Though those are only one weeks worth of sales, it is a significant achievement for a handheld that is approaching it’s fourth birthday.
Here are the sales numbers for the week of October 20th – October 26th:
- 60,467 — PSP
- 24,292 — Wii
- 22,965 — DS Lite
- 7,844 — Xbox 360
- 6,962 — PS2
- 3,931 — PS3
It will be interesting to see how the numbers will be skewed when the Nintndo DSi’s sales start appearing on the chart. With the ongoing Monster Hunter fad going in Japan, I think that the PlayStation Portable has a legitamate chance to stand up to the DSi. What do you think?

Just to clarify. PSP300 did 140k in 4 days. DSi did 170k in two days. Now which one is really running the show in Japan? From where I am sitting it sure doesnt look like it is the PSP at all. So many Pro Sony sites want to mislead the public with false claims and hype up every little advantage Sony gets as if it is the best out there. Clearly though facts are saying something totally different. Guess SOny fans just need to make up the things they are happy about because they cannot find any legit reasons to say Sony is the best
Captain_Sony, we aren’t pro-anything here except games. If you think we’re pro-sony, check the Pete’s Perspective articles…
We actually hope that continued PSP sales like this lead to better software titles, because yes they ARE lacking.
Furthermore, you are clearly anti-Sony. Quote: “Guess SOny fans just need to make up the things they are happy about because they cannot find any legit reasons to say Sony is the best.”
So I believe the argument is void. There shouldn’t even be one.
Way to excuse your fanboy behavior by trying to spin it around on someone ho is just pointing out the truth. IF you must know I was referring to the ORIGINAL article from pspFANBOY.com. If you want to continue to post false information though, that’s your business of course. Just do not start crying when people point it out that it is completely false. Don’t believe me but go look at sales. 60k vs 170k does not equal PSP victory. Now that you know the TRUTH and you’re not a fanboy site, you’ll have no issues fixing the article. BTW supporting all companies equally does not make someone anti Sony. I’m all for Sony success. Just not fanboys and idiots making up that success when it isnt there. I do find it amusing that I am the fanboy for wanting the truth to be told but you who is spinning information to make a false claim is just an average gamer. Maybe you should go get a real clue wtf you are talking about then send me an email. No point arguing with someone who thinks the truth is wrong but lies make you a real gamer.Anyway like I said DSi 170k in two days and I am sure an honest unibased site like this would have no problem admitting that PSP isnt leading anything right now and fixing the article. I already know you will not though. Actions speak louder than words, say you’re not bias all day long. Your actions say the exact opposite though.
@Captain Sony: Paragraphs. Look into it.
Furthermore, from our post: “It will be interesting to see how the numbers will be skewed when the Nintendo DSi’s sales start appearing on the chart.”
Beyond that, I’m not wasting my breath on defending this article, nor am I changing it. Will we update this information with a new article once confirmed numbers are released for the DSi? Absolutely.
Now, go troll somewhere else.
Just for the record I would like to clarify one thing. I am basing this article off of factual information that has been confirmed from other publications. The numbers that have been referenced by the PSP3000 and DSi argument have not been confirmed, nor are they publicly released as of yet.
If you had actually read the article, you would have known that I addressed this at the end and mentioned my curiosity at how well it would do in the face of the upcoming DSi sales.
When the DSi and PSP information has been confirmed by other publications, then I would be more than happy to report the information accordingly.
And as an FYI, it is hard to be a Sony fanboy when I own a 360, Wii, DS and PSP. That is a pretty large spread to be considered a fanboy for any platform… not to mention the fact that I am a Wii news editor here.
That…is probably one of the best marketing pics ever…
