Far Cry 2 reaches the magic million

Ubisoft today announced that their open-world first person shooter, Far Cry 2, has breached the one million units sold worldwide mark in its first three weeks of release.

The shooter, which is available on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, has been garnering some substantial critical praise prior to, and since, its release. “The holiday quarter is off to a solid start with the successful launch of Far Cry 2,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “The game is well on track to achieve our expectations for the year.” What those expectations are is unclear but it’s likely, due to the increased competition within the genre following the release of Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty: World at War, that sales will start to decline.
