Last week we posted a story about the PlayStation Portable handily beating the rest of the competition in the Japanese Hardware sales charts. Many of our readers balked at this conclusion, stating that the DSi was outselling the PSP by a wide margin. What these observant, yet misdirected readers neglected to notice was the week of lag between when the new sales numbers are announced.
Well, now the numbers that they were referencing have been announced by PSPWorld.com and guess what? The readers were right! The sales of the DSi have once again catapulted Nintendo to the top of the sales charts.
Here are the numbers for the week of October 27th – November 2nd:
- 171,000 — Nintendo DSi
- 50,000 — Sony PlayStation Portable
- 36,000 — Sony PlayStation 3
- 25,000 — Nintendo Wii
- 17,000 — Nintendo DS Lite
- 6,800 — Sony PlayStation 2
- 6,300 — Microsoft Xbox 360
In a staggering return to dominance, Nintendo has blown away all of their competition. As was almost true last week with the PlayStation Portable, you can combine the sales of all the competition and it will still not match the whopping 171,000 units of DSi sold. It makes me wonder how long the DSi will continue at this pace. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
With Nintendo’s history of underproducing products, do you think they will be able to keep pace with the demand?
