Imangi Word Squares! (iPhone)

Submitted by Rob LeFebvre on Thursday, 2 October 2008One Comment

If you enjoyed playing Imangi (or at least reading our review of the popular word game), you’ll dig the heck out of the latest news: Keith Shephard, head geek in charge at Imangi Studios, is releasing Word Squares. What makes this different? Well, I’ll let him tell ya:

Imangi Word Squares is a unique take on a popular puzzle that is thousands of years old.  It dates back to the Pre-Christian era and the most famous word square is the Sator Square which was found in the ruins of Herculaneum and many other places.

I stumbled upon the puzzle concept while developing Imangi.  At the time, I was curious to know if it was possible to fill an entire 6×8 Imangi board with valid words.  I found out that it was possible if you are given the correct letters and that this is called a Word Square if the numbers of rows and columns are the same.   This inspired me to include solvable “Perfect Imangi” boards every once in a while for the Daily Challenge in Imangi.  These turned our to be quite popular and fun, and I decided it would be fun to turn into a mini game.”

Imangi Word Squares involves unscrambling a small grid of letters of different sizes to completely solve a square, with a strategy similar to sudoku, Shephard explains. Plan on seeing this game in the App store soon at the delicious price point of $.99

Keith sent us an advance copy of the game, and we’ll have an Evil Review up extremely soon. For now, however, check out the screenie goodness:
