UPDATE: If you want the loooong version, you can now grab the keynote audio right here.
At the Microsoft keynote in Tokyo, there were some extremely big announcements. We here at Games Are Evil do our best to keep you in the loop, so here it is: The Update Mother-lode, in a single serving.
New title announcements
-”HALO 3 Recon:” A prologue to the events in Halo 3 that tells the story from an all-new perspective: an ODST recon marine. See the previously released trailer here.
-”Tekken 6” coming to the Xbox 360 in Fall 2009
-”Star Ocean: The Last Hope” will come to Xbox 360 worldwide, debuting on February 19th in Japan and March 3rd in North America.
-”99 Nights” sequel confirmed
-”Space Invaders Extreme” and “Arkanoid Live” releases for Xbox Live Arcade, will both land in the winter. (Catch our “Dual Evil” review of Space Invaders Extreme on DS/PSP here.)
-”Metal Slug 7” for the Xbox Live Arcade
- “The Kingdom of Fighters: Ultimate Match” will launch in Spring 2009.
Specific dates
New Xbox Experience launch – November 19, 2008
Resident Evil 5 launch – March 12, 2009
Other notes of goodness
- Halo Wars, which is releasing “Early 2009,” will in fact include The Flood. What will their special weapon be? Gravemind tentacles destroying enemy units?
- When the New Xbox Experience is released:
“you can take a picture of your Avatar and use it as your gamerpicture”
(The use of the word “can” here implies that everyone complaining about the Avatars can stop.)
- When the New Xbox Experience releases, you will be able to purchase items from the Xbox Live Marketplace from the web, and flag them for later download to your console. This was pioneered by Bungie for Halo 3 video content and custom maps, and we’re no less than thrilled about this one. It’s another excellent distraction during the day job :-)
A good haul, no? And bonus points to Microsoft for not being afraid to tread on Nintendo’s home court, and in spite of the 360′s abysmal showing in Japan. Persistent wins!
We’ll keep you posted as new TGS info pours in across all consoles.
