NBA 2K9 to include ‘Living Rosters’

2K Sports have finally released details on how they plan to keep the NBA 2K9 player statistics up to date, and it comes in the form of Living Rosters.

We’re told that Living Rosters will constantly update player ratings and tendencies (i.e. whether they like to shot from the left or right, take 3-point shots or drive to the basket etc.) based on a player’s performance in the real-life NBA. The feature will also deliver new animation packages for players that are hitting a hot streak on the NBA courts, enabling you to start breaking out new moves as the season unfolds.

A resident NBA expert within 2K’s ranks, known as the NBA 2K Insider, will carry out these changes. What’s interesting here is that fans of the game will be able to interact with the Insider, and offer their thoughts on which players they believe are worthy of a stats upgrade or, presumably, a downgrade. Any changes to the game’s player ranking will include an analysis on why such a change has been made that will be available from both within the game or via the 2K Sports website.

All of these updates are optional; you’ll have the ability to set updates to download automatically or to manually implement them when you feel they’re necessary.

Only time will tell how the Living Rosters will compare to NBA Live 09’s Dynamic DNA system – in which player’s stats are updated on a daily basis. One thing is for certain however; it’s a good time to be a basketball game fan!
