Have you been watching Apple’s new announcements as they happen over at Engadget? Well, we have, and there’s some interesting news in the iPhone and iPod Touch gaming department. The big news is that there is a hardware refresh of the iPod Touch. It now comes in 8, 16, and 32 Gb flavors. It’s thinner and has Nike’s fitness software built in. The iPhone gets a new firmware, which should help with battery life and crashes.
The other news, more apropos to this site, is Apple’s focus on GAMING. Yes, gaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch was the focus of the “App Store” information at the keynote. They demoed Spore: Origins [our announcement here - review to come soon], Real Soccer 2009, and Need For Speed. Steve even said, “It’s the best portable device for playing games…” Of course he’s going to say that, but the fact that he says it at all is what’s interesting. We here at Games Are Evil Portable are pretty darn happy they’re spending so much time and energy on this. I guess they can finally see the economic advantage to gaming.
Apple is clearly going for the throat in the portable gaming arena now. Interesting times are ahead.
