Review: Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People: Homestar Ruiner Episode 1

Strong Badia awaits, do you has what it takes?

Inside jokes aside I have to disclose that I have been a fan of Homestar Runner for a few years now and I take pity on any who have never witnessed a Strong Bad email. Strong Bad isn’t for every one, but if you have the guts and the time you’ll realize the flash animation of this big headed luchador answering email just may change your life (at the very least you’ll learn the guitar and how to draw a dragon) and the game – and this review – may just make a whole lot more sense.

Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People (SBCG4AP): Homestar Ruiner Episode 1 is the first installment in the new point and click game starring Strong Bad. The Internet tells me that games like “Bone” and “Sam & Max” are the other recent Point and click games, but I haven’t really played one since “King Quest” (Sigh…). Let me be the first to say, welcome back old timey way of playing…I didn’t miss you, but now I noticed you were gone.

The game looks and feels just like a long Strong Bad email episode that I control. I haven’t finished the game yet, but points of interest so far:

  • Your map starts with nothing except your house in the middle and as you discover new areas, you get to place some wherever you like on your map.
  • Some puzzles include: making your own Teen Girl Squad comic, finding all the Snake Boxer 5 manual pages, and
  • You get a virtual photo booth wardrobe to take pictures with the all the neat articles of clothing you find on your journey.
  • When interacting with folks sometimes you have a choice of clicking on a devil or angel Strong Bad.
  • For most of the game you are busy trying to sabotage Homestar’s race and Marzipan’s party.

So far, nothing but good times. If you like the humor of Strong Bad this game doesn’t fail, but if you aren’t a fan I can’t imagine this would convert you.

That was the good news, so now for the reality:

This is just episode 1; there are 4 more episodes remaining (releasing every month) and each of them are 1000 points (10 bucks). The next episode is called “Strong Badia the free” and as this first installment filled up 386 blocks of Wii memory, then I’m guessing the total game should fill up around almost 2000 blocks of memory. I know the whole Wii playing world has the same problem, but I can’t say this enough: Give us more memory.
