MadWorld: Ultra Violent Wii exclusive

We folks who decided to buy a Wii and forsake all other systems don’t have a whole lot coming our way as far as exclusive grown up games, and although MadWorld may not be a serious game, it is not for kids.

In Madworld you play a citizen of Varrigan City and are forced to play a game called “Death Watch” where you must fight and kill others to progress. I did happen to see a demo of the game at comic-con and was delighted to see things like Man Darts, a mini game where you “wail” on zombie like people with a bat and send them flying on to a large Dart board. (Is it a home run or a bulls eye?) At first glance I assumed I was looking at a pre-alpha version because everything was in black and white with only the blood splatter color here and there, but I soon realized that is exactly how the game was going to be played. It gave it a stylistic Sin City feel.

Even with no release date announced and no hands on reviews out there the game is already being attacked in the UK. John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-uk, has been quoted as saying:

“I hope the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will view this with concern and decide it should not be granted a classification. Without that it cannot be marketed in Britain. What the rest of world does is up to them. We need to ensure that modern and civilized values take priority rather than killing and maiming people.”

It’s one thing to say only adults should play this game and I would agree with that, but to try and have the game banned is ridiculous. I mean…doesn’t he see how fun the game looks? (wink, wink) In any case I hope this opens the door for more adult games on the Wii, because yes it is a family system but the kids gotta go to bed sometime.

PS. Can I play as Mii?
